James Barnard, Executive Director of Annual Giving and Marketing, University of Cincinnati Foundation
James grew up in England and earned a degree in Theatre Studies from Lancaster University. He got a job as a student fundraiser with the phonathon but turned out to be one of the worst-performing callers ever hired. So eventually they made him a manager, and he made it a career. After graduation, James moved to the US where he worked in annual giving and marketing roles at Centre College and the University of Louisville. In 2014, James moved to the University of Cincinnati Foundation where he serves as the Executive Director of Annual Giving and Marketing, working with both the university and its academic healthcare system. In this role he is responsible for a complex fundraising strategy targeting gifts under $25,000 as part of the comprehensive Next, Now campaign. Scott Schuster, Vice President of Philanthropy at Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC) and President of the Cincinnati Museums Foundation
Scott is a results focused senior philanthropy and nonprofit executive with a proven history of building collaborative teams focused on high production. Scott is a devoted advocate of the power of education and lifelong learning. He is responsible for advancing and overseeing the division responsible for individual giving, corporate and foundation relations and government relations.
A career fundraiser, he has seen first-hand the transformative impact of philanthropy in the communities he serves. Scott is passionate about creating authentic, longstanding relationships with people and organizations who have a shared vision for the community. He is an innovative leader and an effective strategist who is passionate about utilizing data analytics to build processes and programs that are sustainable and focused on enhanced growth. Scott holds a Master of Science in Marketing, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing, and two graduate certificates in corporate marketing and organizational leadership from the University of Cincinnati’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business.
Scott has been a part of two billion dollar+ campaigns at the University of Cincinnati (UC) and University of Cincinnati Foundation where he played a key role in the planning, funding, and completion of a state of the art, $120 million, 225,000 sq. ft. new business school (opened in 2019) in the heart of UC’s campus. He is currently overseeing the largest fundraising campaign in the history of Cincinnati Museum Center; the Champion More Curiosity Campaign, an $85 million comprehensive campaign focused on reimagining the museum experience through new and restored exhibits, investing in CMC’s future through endowment contributions, and sparking new ideas and programs through general operating support.
